SHIRT DRY CLEANING FULHAM
Shirt Dry Cleaning Fulham
\Not every shirt can go through a normal wash. Silk shirts, linen shirts with stiff collars, and anything labelled "dry clean only" need a gentler method. Shirt dry cleaning in Fulham is one of our most popular services at Blue Moon Dry Cleaners.
We use solvents instead of water to lift dirt, sweat, and stains. This protects delicate fibres. It stops shrinkage. It keeps the collar and cuffs in shape. We've been doing this since 1992, and we hand-press every shirt before it leaves the shop.
When a Shirt Needs Dry Cleaning
The care label is the first thing we check. If it says "dry clean only," water will harm the fabric, dye, or shape. But even without that label, some shirts still do better with dry cleaning.
Shirts that should be dry cleaned:
Silk shirts: Water causes marks, shrinkage, and lost sheen
Linen-silk blends: Mixed fabrics react badly to water and heat
Embroidered or beaded shirts: Details can loosen or bleed in a wash
Structured collar shirts: Stiff collars lose shape in water
Vintage or designer shirts: Older fabrics and dyes are water-sensitive
Our advice:
If you're not sure, bring the shirt in. We check the fabric and label and tell you the best method. For cotton work shirts that can be washed, our shirt laundering and ironing service handles those.
How We Dry Clean Shirts
Our process cleans without damaging the fabric. Here's what happens to your shirt from drop-off to collection.
Step 1 — Inspection. We check for stains, loose buttons, and any damage. We note areas that need pre-treatment.
Step 2 — Pre-treatment. Collar rings, cuff marks, and food stains are treated with the right solvent before the main clean.
Step 3 — Dry cleaning. The shirt goes through a solvent-based clean. This lifts dirt and oils from the fibres without water. It's much gentler on delicate fabrics than any wash cycle ¹.
Step 4 — Hand pressing. Every shirt is pressed by hand. We shape the collar, smooth the cuffs, and press the front placket and sleeves. No machine pressing — the hand finish looks sharper.
Step 5 — Final check. We inspect buttons, seams, and the overall finish before bagging.
From our experience:
Hand pressing makes a real difference. A machine press flattens the collar. We shape it so it sits up properly when worn. Customers across Kensington and Chelsea tell us they can feel the difference.
Same-Day Shirt Dry Cleaning
Need a shirt for tonight? Drop it off before midday and collect the same afternoon. We offer this every weekday at our Fulham Road shop.
This works well before meetings, dinners, or travel. Professionals in Fulham and Chelsea use it regularly. One customer from Parsons Green drops off two silk shirts every Monday morning and picks them up at lunch.
For more on our rush options, see express same-day shirt cleaning.
Stain Removal on Shirts
Shirt collars and cuffs pick up body oils, sweat, and product over time. These marks build up and get harder to shift with each wear.
Common shirt stains and how we treat them:
Collar rings (yellow marks): Pre-soak with targeted solvent
Cuff marks: Spot-treat before main clean
Red wine: Solvent and gentle blotting
Ink: Specialist ink-removal solvent
Grease and food: Pre-treatment then dry clean
Makeup on collars: Solvent-based spot treatment
Most stains come out fully. Older or set-in marks may fade rather than vanish. We always let you know what to expect first.
For tougher marks, see our specialist stain treatment for shirts page.
A word from our team:
Yellow collar rings are the most common stain we see on shirts. They're caused by body oils mixing with product and sweat. The sooner you bring the shirt in, the easier they are to remove. Don't leave it months.
Shirt Fabrics We Dry Clean
We dry clean shirts made from many fabrics:
Silk — smooth shirts that water would ruin
Linen — structured linen that creases badly in a wash
Viscose and rayon — water-sensitive fabrics that shrink fast
Wool and cashmere blends — winter and flannel shirts
Polyester blends — when labelled dry clean only
Embroidered or printed shirts — heat and water can harm prints
We treat every shirt with the same care. It doesn't matter if it cost £30 or £300. For silk shirts, we apply extra attention to avoid water spotting. See our silk shirt and garment cleaning page.
Dry Cleaning vs. Laundering — Which Is Better?
People ask us this every week. The honest answer: it depends on the shirt.
Dry Cleaning
Best for: Silk, linen blends, embroidered, vintage, "dry clean only"
Method: Solvent-based, no water
Stain strength: Better for oil and grease
Fabric protection: Protects shape and colour
Turnaround: Same-day available
Laundering
Best for: Cotton work shirts, casual button-downs
Method: Water-based wash and press
Stain strength: Better for sweat on cotton
Fabric protection: Can shrink delicate fabrics
Turnaround: Same-day available
Many of our customers in Parsons Green and Fulham use both. Cotton shirts go to laundry. Silk and linen go to dry cleaning. Drop everything off at once. We sort them for you.
Our honest view:
If a cotton shirt has a stubborn oil stain, dry cleaning it once can lift the mark. After that, it can go back to laundering.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is dry cleaning better than washing for shirts?
It depends on the fabric. Silk, linen blends, and "dry clean only" shirts should always be dry cleaned. Cotton work shirts do better with laundering.
Can you remove yellow collar stains?
Yes. Collar rings come from body oils and sweat. We pre-treat these before cleaning. Most yellow marks come out fully.
How often should I dry clean a silk shirt?
After every two to three wears, or sooner if stained. Silk absorbs oils fast. Leaving it too long sets the oils into the fabric.
Do you offer same-day shirt dry cleaning?
Yes. Drop off before midday and collect the same afternoon at our Fulham Road shop.
Will dry cleaning shrink my shirt?
No. Dry cleaning uses solvents, not water. There is no shrinkage risk. That's why it's best for water-sensitive fabrics.
Can I drop off both dry cleaning and laundry shirts?
Yes. Bring everything in at once. We sort them by the method each shirt needs.
