Patch Repair Fulham
Invisible Mending and Visible Results | Free Collection & Delivery
There's a particular kind of frustration that comes with a garment you love developing a hole or tear. It's not the same as wearing something out — that's expected, that's life. It's the snag on a nail you didn't notice, the moth damage you found three weeks too late, or the burn mark on a jacket that cost you more than you'd like to admit out loud. You're not ready to throw it away. You just need someone who knows what they're doing.
That's where patch repair comes in, and it's something we've been doing at Blue Moon Dry Cleaners for years. Our shop is on Fulham Road, and we see this kind of work regularly — from casual knitwear with pulled threads to tailored wool trousers that need a section rebuilt from scratch. Each one is different. Each one takes patience.
What We Actually Mean by Patch Repair
Patch repair is a broader category than people often realise. It covers everything from applying a fabric patch to reinforce a thin or torn area, to more involved invisible mending where the goal is to make the repair as undetectable as possible.
At Blue Moon, we handle:
Fabric patches — applied to the inside or outside of a garment depending on the material and the look you want. Inner patches reinforce without showing. External patches, if done well and matched properly, can look entirely intentional.
Elbow and knee patches — a classic for a reason. On heavy-use areas of wool, cotton or cord jackets and trousers, patching before a full hole develops is genuinely the smarter move.
Hole mending — small holes from snags, cigarette burns, moth damage, or general wear. We assess what the fabric is and what method gives the cleanest finish.
Seam and lining repairs — not always what people think of as "patching" but often part of the same job. A torn lining or a seam that's given way alongside a hole gets dealt with at the same time.
Re-weaving and invisible mending — for finer fabrics where a standard patch would show, this is a more involved process where threads from the fabric itself (often sourced from a hidden seam allowance) are used to rebuild the damaged area. It takes time, but the results are remarkable.
If you're not sure which approach your item needs, bring it in. We'd rather look at it and give you an honest assessment than have you make a decision based on guesswork.
Why People Come to Us for Patch Repair Fulham
Most of our patch repair customers fall into one of a few categories.
Some have something sentimental — a coat that belonged to someone, a garment from a trip they're not ready to let go of. The idea of binning it feels wrong, and it should. Good fabric, properly repaired, lasts decades.
Others have simply invested in quality and want to protect that investment. A well-made wool blazer or a pair of heavyweight trousers from a good brand isn't something you replace lightly. Repair is often a fraction of the replacement cost and extends the life of the item significantly.
And then there are the practical ones — school uniforms, work trousers, everyday pieces that just need fixing so they can keep being used. Not everything coming through our door is precious. Sometimes it just needs to work again.
We treat all of them the same way: carefully, honestly, and with the goal of the best possible result for that specific item.
The Repair Process at Blue Moon
When you bring something in for patch repair, the first thing we do is look at it properly. That means checking the fabric type, the location and size of the damage, and — importantly — whether there's matching fabric available anywhere on the garment (a hidden seam, an interior facing, a spare button pocket).
From there, we'll give you a clear quote and a realistic timescale. We don't rush this kind of work. A patch done in a hurry rarely looks right, and with finer fabrics, a rushed invisible mend can end up more visible than the original damage.
Most standard patch repairs are completed within three to five working days. More complex re-weaving jobs take longer — we'll tell you upfront what to expect.
You don't need an appointment to drop items off. Our shop at 484 Fulham Road is open Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 7:30pm, Saturdays from 9am to 6pm, and Sundays from 10am to 4pm. We're accessible from Parsons Green, Sands End, Chelsea and Earl's Court without much trouble — most people are in and out in a few minutes.
A Word on Fabric Matching
This is where a lot of patch repairs go wrong, and it's worth being upfront about it. Matching fabric is one of the hardest parts of the job. The colour, weight, weave and finish all need to be as close as possible, and unless you have a remnant from the original garment, there will sometimes be a slight difference that's noticeable up close.
We'll always tell you when we think a match is close enough to work well and when it might be visible. Some customers are fine with a visible patch — especially on casual or outdoor clothing where it reads as honest wear. Others need it to be seamless. We tailor our approach accordingly.
If you have a fabric remnant from the original garment, bring it. It makes a genuine difference.
Pricing
Patch repair pricing at Blue Moon starts at around £15–£20 for a straightforward small repair. More complex work — larger patches, invisible mending, re-weaving, or multiple damage points — is priced after we've assessed the item in person.
We don't quote over the phone for patch work, because every job genuinely is different. What looks like a simple hole sometimes isn't, and we'd rather be accurate than give you a number that changes when you arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you repair moth damage?
Yes, this is one of the more common jobs we see. The approach depends on how extensive the damage is. Small moth holes in wool can often be invisibly mended. Larger areas may need a patch. We'll look at the item and tell you what's realistic.
Do I need to provide the patch fabric?
Not necessarily. For standard fabric patches, we can often source something close. But if you have a remnant from the original garment, it's worth bringing it — the match will almost always be better.
Can you repair a hole in a suit jacket?
Yes, though tailored suiting requires more care and time than casual fabrics. We assess each piece individually. The location of the damage matters a lot — a hole on a lapel is more challenging than one on a body panel, for instance.
How long does patch repair take?
Most repairs are ready within three to five working days. More involved work, like re-weaving or repairs on very fine fabric, may take longer. We'll give you a clear timeframe when you drop the item off.
Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?
More often than not, yes — especially for quality garments. Even a £60–£80 repair on a coat that cost several hundred pounds is a reasonable outcome. We're happy to give you an honest view on whether repair makes sense for your specific item.
Do you repair children's clothing?
We do, and we see a fair amount of school uniform work. The same principles apply — we'll look at the damage, give you a quote, and get it sorted.
